Sultans of Swings take out the win in Dalby!

August 27, 2023

Round 23 of the Drummond Golf Survivor Golf Series was held at Dalby Golf Club, two hours west of Brisbane.

It was an awesome day, beautiful sunny weather and 25 degrees. Dalby is the home of the Brauer family.

A full field of players and lots of spectators witnessed an amazing Survivor Golf Series event unfold.

Thanks to all our major sponsors Drummond Golf, TaylorMade, Adidas, Reef Print, Fleet Plant Hire and the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas.

Thank you to our event sponsor Warrego Water. Thank you to Diablo for the amazing cocktail bar which was a highlight for both players and spectators.

Thank you to our local sponsors, the Commercial Hotel Tara, Dalby Motor Inn, Squires Restaurant and McDonalds Dalby for their hole activations and hole prizes.

Prizes for best team names were won by Slice Slice Baby and Late Night Tickle Burgers. Great names but not so great golf on this occasion.

There was some exceptional golf played with several groups getting off to a fantastic start. We saw three eagles, and someone almost get a hole in one on the Diablo hole!

The Survivor Golf format of 8 drives each proved a challenge for some teams. We had one team nett 5 under after 5 holes, taking 5 of the low markers drives. Unfortunately, this team faded out with three holes to go to finish 12th.

With three holes to go, we had five teams within one shot. The team Winners Win, Sam Harrington and Jack Whitton finished 10 under and they had a nervous wait in the clubhouse hoping to hold off the rest of the field. It was a very exciting tournament producing an extremely close finish! With two holes to play, there were five teams in contention to equal or better their score. Clearly demonstrating what close results this format can achieve! On the last hole of the day, Sultans of Swing, Peter Forbes and Jason Lumley needed to par the hole to force a play off, and par the hole they did! Spectators applauded and surrounded the 18th hole to watch an epic play off! It was nerve wracking to watch but truly exciting, and after two play off holes the teams were still tied. So following the Survivor format, the teams needed to play a nearest the pin challenge. Jason Lumley hit a sensational drive to within 10 feet from the hole to secure victory for the Sultans of Swing!

Congratulations to Sultans of Swing on taking out the event and winning their place in the Drummond Golf Survivor Golf Series final in December at Port Douglas. The boys were thrilled with their victory, presented with their prizes and sprayed in champagne. The celebrations going well into the night!

The Dalby event raised over $1000 for Kick On mental health charity. Great atmosphere, live music, competitions and a great day was had by all!

Sincere thanks to Dalby Golf Club and all their staff for hosting the Drummond Golf Survivor Golf Series event and we are looking forward to returning to Dalby Golf Club next year!
