Innisfail Event 3,4,5
After a week of heavy rain and nervous uncertainty, the clouds finally moved out of the way and Survivor Golf went full steam ahead at the Historic Innisfail GC in Far North Qld.
Firstly, a massive thank you to all staff and volunteers for spending enormous amounts of hours out on the golf course to make it playable for this round of events.
Event 3
An early start was made very enjoyable with a great spread of breakfast burgers and drinks thanks to Mighty Nice Meats and Mungalli Creek Milks.
Anticipations were rising as the teams started early on the green with several birdies, setting their sights on a big finish!
Brian and Matt (Team Neighbeers) Lead the fields with 6 holes to go. All this was helped after having 3 Nett Eagles and combining beautifully.
What an amazing finish to Qualifier number 3 with a 3-way play-off at Innisfail Golf Club.
Brian Borusiewicz Jr & Matthew Kropp (Team Neighbeers) made an incredible birdie on the Play-Off Hole in front of the morning crowd. with that shot, they booked themselves a spot in the Port Douglas Qualifier. Congratulations to all involved in this morning session! Special mention to our 2 other teams; Rob Williamson & Luke Dunn (J & R 1) and Gary Stevenson & Rory Fisher (Sweaty De Sham Balls) all finishing at an impressive Nett 8 Under Par.
Event 4
It was an exciting afternoon field, following a short delay watching the tense playoff and pondering what scores they would need to secure the Golden Ticket.
6 Teams from the morning backed up for their second event after the enjoyment of round 1.
In the intense humidity, all scores after 6 were near enough to level par and all teams played incredible golf.
After getting off to a flying start, 2 teams battled out the last 5 holes in extremely tough conditions at Innisfail GC. Local Legends (Team Aviators) & Team (OM MY GOONDI)
Needing a Par to win on the final hole and still needing to take one of his drives, it was Justin Bell that showed Nevers of Steele and stood up where it mattered most. With his peers watching and golfing partner, Wes, biting his fingernails, JB or now known as ICE CUBE hit the ball to 15 feet off the pin! By making Par, OM MY GOONDI took out the sort after Golden Ticket and booked themselves into the Port Douglas Grand Final in December. A huge shout out to The Aviators (Jake Cockal and Ian Saunderson) who fought bravely into a very close 2nd Place.
Winners – Nett 10 Under OH MY GOONDI (Justin Bell & Wes Barrie)
Runners Up – Nett 9 Under THE AVIATORS (Ian Saunderson & Jake Cockal)
Event 5
What a better way to start Qualifier 5 at Innisfail with Bacon & Eggs from Mighty Nice Meats and Mungalli Creek Milks to nurse some sore heads from the celebrations of day 1 of 2.
Out of the blocks like a rocket was team Divot Tools and would prove very hard to catch with 4 birdies in the first 6 holes. Ross and Jeff finished runners up last year.
Jacko’s Jokers (Troy Jones and Daniel Hammett) needed a birdie on the last hole to win the tournament outright. They gave themselves every chance with a great drive and landing the second on the green, unfortunately, their putt lipped out and to the delight of the crowd. We have our second playoff in 2 days. Both teams Qualifying at Nett -11.
An amazing round by both teams and into the Play-Off we headed.
Both Ross and Jeff nervous on the tee after coming so close last year and Troy and Daniel charging home with momentum.
Rosco McConell took the bull by the horns and hit his approach shot to 10 foot.
Ross then showed amazing poise to seal the victory with an incredible birdie and to send the DIVOT TOOLS into the Grand Final!!
