Recap! Robina Woods Gold Coast

August 27, 2022

Local knowledge, grace and nerves of steel saw the Green Jackets (Justin Dylan and Lyndon Murphy) take out the 17th qualifying leg of the Drummond Golf Survivor Series at the prestigious Robina Woods GC on the beautiful Gold Coast.

After jumping out to an early lead, the Green Jackets started to feel the pinch late with five teams getting within one shot with two holes remaining. A late bogey on 17 also not helping the Jackets charge!

Needing a par on the last to secure their seats on the plane to the final at Mirage Country Club, Port Douglas, it was Justin ‘Eggs Benny’ Dylan with steely determination knocking it to 15 foot and making a solid 2 putt to send the local crowd into a rapturous applause.

“It’s only a qualifier but it feels like we’ve won the final!” Eggs Benny said.

“Survivor Golf definitely makes amateurs feel like professionals. Lyndon and are still in shock. Best golf day. Sick as!”

There were plenty of late chargers for the crown with Cycling royalty and former Tour de France Green Jersey winner Robbie McEwen and partner Greg Lindores almost pipping the Jackets at the post finishing one shot back despite a late eagle charge.

Former NRL stars Greg Bird also had a strong start to his round but a sluggish run home saw him and partner Mitch Sherman drop down to a tie for 24th.

Former Cowboy and 90.9 Sea FM Radio Host Ben Hannett had a memorable day out with partner Jamie McCaa with the pair lighting up the greens with a couple of birdies on the cards!

The next round of the Drummond Golf Survivor Series takes teams to the prestigious Easter Golf Club in Melbourne on Friday October 7.
