Round 1 event wrap from Palmer Sea Reef GC

January 30, 2023

In a tense battle all day with 3 holes left of play there were nine teams within one shot, and in a competitively fought event it was last year’s reigning champs The Young Guns – Couper Smith and Jack Roberts who reigned supreme

The pair fought an intense battle with debutants major sponsors Trinity Auto Group – Paul Bown and Andy Gallop heading into the first playoff of the season.

Surrounded by 100 competitors and a great crowd of supporters, we saw a fantastic 3-hole play-off.

Roberts sank a beautifully placed 20 foot putt to send the crowd into wild applause followed by Smith hitting it to 1m from the flag for a nearest the pin win to take out the first round of the 2023 Drummond Golf Survivor Series in Port Douglas at Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course.

Round 1 experienced all the elements of rain, sunshine, thunderstorms and humidity but that didn’t break the spirits of our teams.

With huge support from the club, it was a brilliant start to the season with a great turnout of teams and spectators creating the perfect atmosphere of support for our amateur golfers.

Huge shoutout to Laurie Greenwood who hit a drive to 1cm for a hole in one almost scoring himself a $20,000 car thanks to Trinity Auto Group – please contact them directly and speak with Richard Jaska for the best deals for any new or used cars in the Far North Queensland region.

Congratulations to the 2022 season winners Couper Smith and Jack Roberts who took out round one of the Survivor Golf Series for 2023, they are now Golden Ticket holders yet again securing their spot in this year’s 2023 final in December.

Round 2 takes teams down to Victoria and to the beautiful Eastern Golf Club for the second round of the 2023 series.
