Round 3 of the Drummond Golf Survivor Series saw the event head to the picturesque Clifton Springs Golf Club on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria.
A sold out field took to the undulating and very tight course that was presented in great condition by the ground staff.
Victorian event sponsors Fleet Plant Hire had three teams participating in this event and were hopeful of adding a second team into the Series final on December 10, after taking out Round 2 the previous week at the Eastern Golf Club.
It was a very serious start to the event with teams playing very cautiously for the first 3-4 holes. Once teams started to ease into a few Furphy’s the birdies started to flow.
With three holes to play there were 15 teams out of 50 still in contention and all trying to reach the elite Nett 10 under figure.
With one hole to play we had two teams jump out of the pack. X Golf Geelong birded 2 out of the last 3 holes to finish at Nett 10 Under. Fig Jam, the last team to enter the competition birdied their last hole secure a spot in the two team playoff.
Infront of the 100 strong crowd both teams stepped up to the plate from 80 metres out and hit great shots into 5 metres and 8 metres respectably.
With the adrenaline pumping team XGolf both rolled their putts 6 feet past the hole leaving a tricky finish. Fig Jam cleverly lagged their putt to 18 inches and the stage was set for a second hole playoff if X Golf could make the 6 foot returns putts. Unfortunately both putts slid by the side door leaving FIGJAM to take out the golden ticket and book themselves into the playoffs at Port Douglas – winning flights and accommodation to the event.
Thanks to all sponsors and participants for a great day, we look froward to returning the Clifton Springs, same time next year.
